If you have AC voltage use your volt meter set on DC volts to see what your charging voltage is across the battery terminals. Engine speed should be at 1/2 throttle or better. If you see only 12 volts your rectifier probably needs replacing. Before you do that remove your negative battery cable at the battery. Then remove one wire at a time and clean it, then reconnect each wire at the rectifier. When this is completed reconnect your battery cable and start the engine. Recheck the charging voltage at your battery if there's no change I think your rectifier needs replacing. Hal
