There aren't a lot of 1953 anything still around in the lawn and garden field. If it looks decent, and doesn't have a lot of rust, I would definitely hang on to it. I have no idea if the blade housing is stamped steel or cast aluminum. Many of the aluminum housings were broken or cracked due to carelessness. Still it would likely be worth fixing up. Not likely to be able to get it back in "stock condition", but "presentable"? yes. As far as worth is concerned, it kinda depends on how you feel about old iron. Very few restore them for a profit. Most do it for the satisfaction of accomplishment and to keep the past alive. Good luck.
