Steering spindle is always a problem on that style Cub. My new fix is to put the whole front axle out of a wide frame on it--different style spindles. The hydro can be fixed --it is more than likely the double spring on the directional plate (at the side of the pump) becomes worn and sloppy. Take the plate off and use 3/16" key stock and weld on the plate. Stretch the springs just a little and most play will come out. If the directional handle moves too free, there is a nut on the bottom behind the battery that tightens against a friction disc. Just snug that up until you are happy with it. If it creeps with the brake pedal locked down, there is an adjustment at the trans that you can make. If you need to do that just question back later. Hopes this helps.
