SEARS LAWN TRACTOR questions?

I have a sears 12.5 hp lawn tractor. It is the slowest thing I have ever seen. when trying to back up and not to fast going forward also.how can I make it a little faster in forward and reveres? someone told me to change the puley on the rearend.will this work I also use this to plow snow in the winter.what will this do if I do this?Please help...
