The Major series are an excellent tractor. Their power is unbelievable for their size and horse power rating. Depending on the exact series ie. "New Fordson Major" (hand throttle is down on side of lower console) "Power Major" (Throttle is up by steering wheel, headlights on outside of grille, and should say Power Major on badge, or "Super Major", (headlights mounted on inside of grille with cut outs in grille screens) They range from 35 hp, to 38 hp, to 43 hp, if I remember correctly, and were built from 1953-1964.
They have a wet sleeve engine(sealed by "O" rings, top and bottom). It is possible to pull the injectors and put a good lubricating penetrating oil in the cylinders, and let it soak, pull the starter, and see if it can be turned with a bar in the flywheel, after soaking a few days.
If you do pull the injectors, keep track of the little lead return line washers, two per fitting, and the copper injector base washers, at the bottom of the injector holes (may stick to injector nozzles). Make sure you use a back up wrench when removing the injector lines, it is possible to break the tops of the injectors otherwise.
I maintained a fleet of about one hundred FM rentals, for pulling green pea combines, from 1964-1972.
The live hydralics mean that it has a two stage clutch, and the PTO has to be engaged to drive the Hyd. pump.
