First off try this. Pull the distributor cap rotor and dust cover. With the ignition on try opening and closing the point by hand carefully or you will get a shock. You should both see and hear a spark at the points. If you do not you either have a short or the points need to be cleaned. You can also remove the ignition side of the coil wire and touch it on and off the coil with the points open. If you get a spark there then you have a short and you did something wrong when you installed the new points
