Plug gap and point gap if I remember right should both be about the same at 0.025. As for compression that is very poor compression. even the old 8N needs at a min. of 90PSI to run well and that 2000 should have a good bit more then that. Tell us the whole story behind this old machine and maybe we can help. With what you have said I would first off get a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap. Then I would put say a 1/4 cup ATF in the cylinders and then open the carb back up and make sure the float is set correctly and that the needles seat is tight and that the needle is seating as it should
