I've never been in to one of those pumps. But as a general rule, when it comes to bushings and bearings a bit of prelube is always a plus. It might take a few minutes - sometimes even an hour of running to pull enough oil from the rear end up into that pump to make it prime. A bit of grease will wash out quickly when it does prime and is cheap insurance in the meantime.
