Jim, I'm sure you have all the lifters out of the way; front gear off and the distributor removed. Also, there is a retainer plate on the rear of the engine that can be seen/unbolted through the holes in the pump drive gear. If the cam rotates freely and all the aforementioned is out of the way, it should slide right out the back.
