I have an NAA with a Pippin Backhoe. I was doing some work with it in the woods and needed to back up. I put it in reverse and upon releasing the clutch, heard a LOUD "bang bang bang" from inside the transmission. The tractor shakes as this happens (as if it is trying to go in reverse). After a couple of more tries (same result) I pulled the cover and took a look. I cannot seem to find anything wrong, although I will admit I don't have a lot of experience with these.
I was looking at the IT manual, and it seems that the shifter fork for the reverse gear is held in place on the shifter rod by a set screw and lock nut. Is is possible this may have come loose (or slid down the shifter rod), so my reverse gear doesn't fully engage?
Any other thoughts on this would be appreciated. I took a look through the archives and can find some discussion of this, but nothing like this case. Any pointers or help would be appreciated. Even a picture of how the reverse gear should line up in a good transmission for comparison purposes would be appreciated.
