Given the choice between the 8N and the Golden Jubilee/NAA? No choice at all- the Golden Jubilee wins every time. Lots more tractor. Now, if you want a utility tractor that will actually work for you, look for one of the Hundred series Fords. The 600 series is very similar in many respects to the Golden Jubilee/NAA. Both the Golden Jubilee/NAA and the 600 series use the 134 cubic inch Red Tiger engine at 31 to 34 horse. The 800 series is also similar in aspect (it is a little larger), but features the 172 cubic inch Red Tiger engine at around 45 horse. The 600 series Fords are generally priced in the same range as the Golden Jubilee/NAA. The 800 series tractors generally run several hundred dollars more. My personal favorites in working Ford tractors from the Fifties are the 660, the 661, the 860, and the 861. All of these models have the five-speed transmission and live PTO. You can get a two-speed PTO (540 and 1000 RPM) with the model 681 and the model 881 but there is something of a drawback in the x81's- the Select-O-Speed transmission. When the Select-O-Speed works it is a good transmission. There are actually a few out there that do work well. Unfortunately, most of the Select-O-Speed transmissions do not work quite so well, parts are nearly impossible to find and mechanics qualified to service the SOS are, for the most part, dearly departed. I suggest finding out as much as you possibly can about the Ford tractors of that era so that you can make an educated choice based upon your projected needs.
