I am a neophyte with tractor repair -- any help will be appreciated. I have a Ford 4400 diesel and I think it is about a 1985 model. It has the front loader but no back hoe. Generator froze up and I replaced the bearings, but it broke the fan belt. I can't see any EASY way to change the fan belt. 1) There is a shaft going forward from the crank shaft pulley that prevents me from slipping the new fan belt onto the pulley. It looks like it runs to the hydraulic pump -- I think. 2) And there is almost no room for me to get my hands in there to do any wrench work. What is the proper way (easy way?) to put on the new fan belt? It appears that I have to remove that shaft or something. HELP! ;-) Thanks --John

Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
