That tractor came with either a 144 cu in diesel engine or a 134 cu in gasoline engine. Both engines used the same block (basically) so if you found a good 134 gas or even a 172 gas engine you should be able to swap it in. Before you go to that trouble, you should make sure the Select-o-speed transmission is good because if it isn't, that's going to be the expensive thing to fix. As for what year your tractor is, you usually determine that from the serial number. Unfortunately, due to the battery location on the diesel models, often the serial number gets wiped out by 40 years of leaking battery acid. Just in case your serial number survived, the link below will show you where to find it and how to tell what year your tractor is. If the s/n is no longer readable, you still might be able to determine age from date codes on the rear axle housings or the radiator.
