Are you adjusting bands two and three when they're released? They're applied with springs and band 3 has an especially strong spring. They must be adjusted with hydraulic oil pressure compressing the springs to release the bands. Relying on memory now, I think you adjust band three with the engine running in neutral and the rear wheels disconnected (check the manual). With the lock nut backed off, turn the screw in till you feel resistance, then back it off three quarters of a turn. Shut off the engine, let the band apply, it'll hold the screw while you tighten the lock nut.
