Yellow Ford 621 Tractor

[ View Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Return to Forum ]

Posted by Chuck Hatcher on March 17, 2003 at 10:06:30 from (205.128.20.25):

I have a 1960 Ford 621. It was originally delivered to the Kentucky Highway Department with a front-mounted broom. It was originally painted yellow (there is no red paint under the yellow).

The second owner removed the broom, added a three point hitch and pto, and painted the tractor red with gray sheet metal.

I plan to do a quick refurbish this spring, and later on do a full restoration. I am thinking it would be appropriate to paint it yellow, as it was originally. (It woon't be completely original, because I'm not going to remove the hitch or pto!) I'd be interested in answers to the following questions:

1. Did you ever see a new or restored 621 that was yellow?

2. If so, were there any markings on the side of the hood (is a 621 a Workmaster like a 641?)?

3. What do you think of the idea of painting the restored tractor yellow?

4. Any idea what shade of yellow Ford used around 1960? Unfaded places look like a slightly orange shade of bright glossy yellow (not light like lemon, or tan like Caterpillar).

I'll be taking pictures before and after the work, and hope to get them posted somewhere before to long.

Thanks in advance!

Today's Featured Article - Madison's County - by Anthony West. Philip Madison has been a good friend of mine for quite some time. He has patiently suffered my incessant chit chat on the subject of tractors for longer than I care to remember, and on many occasions he has put himself out, dropped what ever it was he was doing, to come and lend a hand cranking handles, or loading a find onto a trailer. Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects. ... [Read Article]
