Jeff; I rebuilt my steering box earlier this year. Seems to me that there is a 3/8NPT plug on the front side of the housing where I added the lubricant, 90W gear oil. You must have damaged the shaft seals with heat when you removed the pitman arm. These seals can be replaced (2 per side) by removing the cover. I think the seals are Chicago Rawhide 11055, or Ford D5UZ3591A.
