I have seen many posts along these lines where it sounds like the prev. owner did not have the oil filter and strainer installed correctly and the "new" has trouble figuring out what is going on in there. My TO had the oil strainer in unside down and it would not come out of the oil pan, I had to drop the oil pan to change the filter and correct the problem. That center bolt threads up into the oil drop tube that is coming down from the center main bearing. You should have both a #1107 paper filter cartridge, and a wire mesh strainer around the outside of the paper filter, and a steel can cover that stays up in the crankcase, the filter and screen push up into the cover. Sounds complicated, but once you see the right way to install, it is a simple design. Not sure what exactly the problem is with your case, maybe the threads are stripped and the bolt won't back out, try prying down on the lid while loosening the bolt. If all else fails, you can cut the bolt and replace it, or drop the oil pan. George
