Thanks for the reply guy’s. I found a possible solution though it won’t sit well with those purists. I have found a place for hot rodding that has tach drive adapters for those who want to keep a mechanical tach. One attaches to the crankshaft and the other to the camshaft. Both require some modification to the tractor by drilling into the shafts. I still need to do some research as far as what the ratio of the Ferguson tach is and the direction of rotation. The crankshaft option would also require a much longer cable but I know where to get a custom cable made for that. I also considered the possibility of taking one of these adapters and modify the alternator instead of the tractor. This will also have to be verified for ratio and direction of rotation. I think the alternator mod is the most promising with the adaptor. It’s sticks with the original premise of using the generator and if something goes wrong with the modification I just have to replace the alternator and haven’t drilled into the engine. The alternator tach drives on alternators such as the 50071-EX from the MF165 use gear driven adapters and it sounds like they may spin the wrong way. I am going to see if I can find one on a shelf somewhere to verify the direction of rotation of the tach coupling as well as it’s ratio. I am going to resolve this little deficiency with the alternator conversion once and for all but I also haven’t ruled out going back to the 12v Gen either. Here is the site address for the adaptors if your interested http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/group.asp?GroupID=JONESTACHDRIVE

Madison's County - by Anthony West. Philip Madison has been a good friend of mine for quite some time. He has patiently suffered my incessant chit chat on the subject of tractors for longer than I care to remember, and on many occasions he has put himself out, dropped what ever it was he was doing, to come and lend a hand cranking handles, or loading a find onto a trailer. Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
