I just rebuilt my TO-30. Very easy to rebuild. It runs strong. I have less then $550 in the rebuild. The only thing I didn't put in new was a water pump ($25) and I had the crank re-done which was only $50. Buy the video ($20) and the books before doing it. If you have any mechanical skills it's easy. Just take your time. If the trator has set for a while then you might want to rebuild the hydrulic pistion also. Rings and gaskets run around $30. If you us the trator for bush cutting get a over-run clutch. I've seen what happens when you don't know what your doing with straight pto. Talk to people around you that might have insite on that subject. I won't sell my TO-30, I love the way it starts and handles in tight places. Parts a still easy to get, just watch out who you buy from. I had a Auto dealer try to sell me a pto seal for $50 when a dealer 6 states away only wanted $15 with $2 shipping. The internet has a lot of places to shop. Here is one. I was born and raised on a fram, my dad brought a TO-30 new in 1955 which my bother has and still works it hard. He's going to rebuild for the first time. It still runs great but starting to us a little oil about 2 quart every 8 hrs of straight running. So as you can see it's lasted a long time. Look luck if you buy the TO-30.

In the last entry to this series we gave a brief overview of hydraulic system theory, its basic components and how it works. Now lets take a look at some general maintenance tips that will keep our system operating to its fullest potential. The two biggest enemies to a hydraulic system are dirt and water.
