One wire output from alternator goes to AMP meter (same place as BAT wire from generator regulator) If there was an L post on old regulator it supplied power to lights and ignition switch. With alternator this connection is to alternator side of ammeter, or just attach L wire from regulator to output post of alternator.
Unless modified the alternator must be negative ground. (connect ammeter so it shows negative with lights or ignition on, engine not running. Also with negative ground the - side of coil goes to distributor.
If this is a 6 to 12 volt conversion you must either add a ballast resistor between switch and + post on coil, or replace coil with a direct 12 volt coil (NAPA IC14SB or equivalent). Failure to do this will allow excess current through the ignition system resulting in damage to points, coil and possibly the ignition switch.
