why are u using it? if its for the hell of it then you dont need it. that T.A. was designed to be used when doing field work and under a heavy pull to be used for a short time.this was so you didnt have to stop and shift to a lower gear. once you got threw the tough spot you were to then use direct drive. another place it comes in handy is for baling hay when you run into heavy bunches in the windrow.. other than that the t.a. is just there and dont even think of it. you have 4 gears to select from and i have yet to find a reason to need a t.a. on any of these tractors. so if you dont want to spend a pile of money to fix it,m just dont use it and all will be fine.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
