Oh yes,Its possible to use without a gauge wheel.You just have to set your depth and draft closer,let the tractor 'carry' the plow and not the gauge wheel.I think the gauge wheel was an "option" that most plows were ordered with.I've plowed 'hundreds' of acres without a gauge wheel....You need more help,call me.(970)417-1178.
