Barney, Your tractor could be a 1941 (J is the code letter for 1940 not 1946) as the cast parts are not installed the day they are cast. Being cast on October 8, 1940 it is most likely that part wasn't mated with others on the tractor for a couple or more months. I have a 1951 Farmall M which has casting dates beginning in October 1950 and running through early March 1951 and the chassis s/n indicates it was an early April 1951 tractor.
