You are CORRECT about one wire going on each side of the ceramic insulator, but WRONG on what the circuit is called. The glow plug are in SERIES. Power is applied to the back glow plug. The jumper to the next glow plug, #3 goes on the OTHER side of the insulator. Then, #2 is jumpered in the same manner, and then #1. The second jumper from #1 is fastened to ground, so the glow plugs are all in series. Be SURE the dash-mounted glow indicator/resistor is in the circuit. Here's my hard-working 424, still in it's work clothes...
