4 inch pistons still came with small piston pin.in 400. IH also made some 4 inch pistons for M that used small pin,they used adapter bushing in rod. SM through 450 used same casting # on block exept SM through early 400 ended in R1 and later 400 and 450 ended with R2.Think some replacement C-281 blocks may have ended in R3.Have looked at some 400 within 300 of ending serial # that apeared to be originial and they had C-264 cast on block. Also at portland Indiana 8 to 10 years ago a 450 was being parted out and I purchased engine serial # 511 so that don't leave very many to end up in 400 with C-281 on it from factory.
