Mike: You can get sickle mowers for the cub that will go past horizontal for ditch work--it's more a function of the mower than the tractor. Hundreds of cubs were used this way by road crews in their heyday. As far as specific spots to look for welds on a cub, they're about the same as most tractors--check the obvious places such as final drives, block cracks (particularly in the bottom corners on the front and back) and the front spindles, which are a bit light for use as a loader tractor (though it didn't stop many intrepid souls from attaching them). Also, the high, offset design of the cub makes some sidehill work a touch hairy, so use caution.
