When I say Working - I dont mean heavy work - I have 110 acres of land with timber planted after Hurricane Katrina - need to reclear roads and areas where it has grown up. Also need to clear a spot for new building. Probably won't see 50 to 100 hours a year.

I really like the AC line - have a HD6B - but it has steering clutch issues. I'm leaning to spending a bit more and getting the Cat D5. Seem to be a lot of them in the late 60's early 70's vintage in the 10-15k range, so parts should be available if i need them. Is $10-15k a reasonable range for a good machine?

Even found 1 advertised on Machinery Trader for $8200 (about same as the HD11B I was looking at).
Anyone know anything about that dozer / close to Lees Summit, MO http://www.machinerytrader.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=8596347&.

Probably still cheaper at $11k locally by the time you figure hauling 600 miles. Anything specific to look for on D5.

Thanks again. Ed

Today's Featured Article - Farmall 460: That's My Girl - by LeAnn R. Ralph. How many sounds can you think of that are as familiar to you as your own breathing? What about the hum of your refrigerator? Or the thump of your clothes dryer? Maybe the engine of your car? You hear those sounds every day, and you don't think much about them, do you. I can think of a few common, ordinary sounds in my daily life, too. ... [Read Article]
