About coolant flowing thru radiator too fast, I had an old IHC Travelall, approx 60 -61 model, with overheating problems that a new thermostat did not fix. It was a IHC V8 engine either 392 or 345 I think and it had truck size hoses to the radiator. An old IHC mechanic suggested putting a washer in the upper hose. I finally found one, about 1" center hole and 3 1/2" O.D., put it in hose at radiator and it cured my problem. I mean it had big hoses.
I also tuned it up one time and put a bad condenser in it. That cost me a starter.
