After putting a pressure plate, new discs, brake band, and throw out bearing in my 350 this year, I pulled it out the door and it slipped. I had not adjusted the three fingers on the pressure plate. I got the JD7 gauge, tore it down again, and set the pressure plate and it worked fine. Do what you want but I would have given a bunch more than that gauge cost to have been able to skip the second tear down. I have put in several tractor clutches and automotive clutches and none of them I dealt with had adjustments for finger height on the pressure plate. The steering clutch pressure plate is different and you need to set it exactly like the book says.............unless you prefer to learn this the way I did.
