I'm going to go look at two dozers this weekend. I'll try and tell you what I know about them and get your opinions and thoughts on them.
The first one is a '89 or '90 Series II. It's a 78 HP, Lever Steer, It belongs to the guy that did my dozer work on my property back in Aug. It's his backup machine. It has a new undercarriage and recent paint. It also has a winch. The Price is $25K.
The second one is a '91 D4c XL Series II. It's a 80 HP, Pedal Steer. It has a new undercarriage and new paint. THere isn't a ripper or winch on this one. But, it does have Aux Hyd on the rear of the machine. The Price is $20K.
I don't know much about them other than the above. The XL is being sold as he doesn't like Pedal steer. Because he has bad knees and wants a lever steer. The other is being sold because he said he didn't use it much after being rebuit. Because he uses his D6 now.
I assume, the D4c XL means it has longer than normal tracks.
Since, I've never really operated a dozer in 23 years and it was a cable dozer at that. I figure I can get used to either one as far as lever or pedal. Since, I have timberland I thought the winch would be better than a ripper. But, the one has neither. I'm not sure about a ripper since I'm in timberland and I'm not sure the winch is worth $5K more.
So, give me your thoughts on the pair and let me know if my info is incorrect or things to watch out for these particular models years, series & etc....
