I have an older John Deere 450 dozier with
dry steering clutches. I recently had the right side clutches and brake bands replaced
and everything worked good for a while.
I have removed the 2 side plates and have adjusted the brake bands as required and now
when I pull left lever the whole machine stops.
Sometimes it will catch and steer a little and, when in reverse, it still steers as normal most of the time.Sometimes I hear a
little grinding sound when releasing left
steering handle.
I have also removed top plate under seat to
watch what happens on the left side when I pull lever back. The spinning drum stops and so does the right track therefore stopping the machine.
The 3/4 square plug on both sides have not been removed to do any adjusting. Can some
one please tell me if this a necessary adjustment that might help my steering problem and just what does this adjustment do that the brake band adjustment doesn't.

To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
