Cat. D4C Need Help

I have a 1988 Cat. D4C dozer. I have ordered the manuals but I would like to adjust the steering brakes before I burn brush piles tomorrow. I have searched and understand that I need to remove a cover cap and adjust a bolt underneath. Could someone post a pic of where the cover cap is? Or send it to my email at [email protected]? I would much appreciate it! Thank you very much.

Don, look on top of the clutch covers, scrape off the dirt and look near the place the brake linkage connects. The cover is oval and about 3"X2" held on by 2 3/8" bolts. Look at this cover carefully, the oldest need to be removed, bolt underneath, some have a 9/16"hex protruding through them and the newest have extension rods that extend up to the sides of the seats. Try adjusting and come back if you have problems.

Thanks Bob. I"m not exactly sure where the clutch covers are? I looked yesterday and found where the linkage from the foot pedals attaches to the levers that go back and forth (with spring attached) The levers pivot on a shaft that is in a round topped housing bolted to the top of the final drive? Where are the oval plates from those? forward, backward, inside outside of those housings? That is not very clear/ I hope you understand. Thanks again.

OK. I must have the oval plates because there is nothing beside or under my seat. I guess I need to clean more dirt and mud off the top. Thanks!
