1010 differential w/water

I recently bought a 1010 loader with low hours and not worn out but it had been sitting for 16 years. I"m going throught it and found the differential and trans had water in it. I just see surface rust without any pitting......Do I just clean it up and try it or are there parts that would be more vulnerable to water that should be replaced? As far as I know it was never used in this condition. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would drain the water, obviously, put in as much diesel as I could afford, slosh it around or run an airline into to it to get it agitating somehow for 20 minutes or so. Them I'd drain that. Load it up with good oil and let it idle for a while and see how the tranny sounds. Then drive it around with no load and see how the rear sounds. Not much else you can do that I can think of. It's either okay or it's not.
