Hey guys! So my 400 sits outside all winter, I have a coolant heater on it that runs on a timer. Tractor starts right up and runs fine, but the hydraulics (both factory live and PTO) are pretty slow until it gets warmed up completely. Wondering if I can stick a couple magnetic block heaters on the reservoirs with risk of overheating the fluid and deteriorating it. I see they sell both 200 and 300 watt units that say they provide 300-400 degrees of heat. Thanks!
 
They will work fine, Only one needed. The oil will circulate from convection in the tank. Putting an old jacket over the reservoir will also help keep it toasty. I use one on a Nissan Truck to get the oil warm. Put it on a cold proof timer to allow it to do its job for 2 hours. Jim
 
On a sheet metal pan they work in a few hours. On a cast housing they take much much longer.

KAT'S makes immersion heaters that replace drain plugs that heat the oil directly.
 
thought maybe I should clarify . The 2 places I have used one. one is a 7 gallon steel hydraulic tank outside . the heater works really good but takes 10 hrs. will throw a blanket over the tank next time good idea. the other is a cast iron oil pan with 10-12 liters of oil in it outside again. minus 20 and 30 Celsius.
