I have a 1955 farmall 100. The starter just started to grind and
needs replacing. I have a 12 volt battery but the starter on it now
is 6 volt Can I use a 6 volt starter with this 12 volt battery????
thanks in advance tractor lover

Very few 6 volt starters are converted to 12 volts when the tractors are converted to 12 volts. A 6 volt starter will work just fine.

Get the starter serviced it needs repair or 6v would start the engine. Adding 12v could just make the problem worse. The money you will spend on 12v will fix the starter now.

We had an H and a Super C for years that were converted to 12 volt and the 6 volt starter never was replaced or bothered.

When you take the starter motor in to correct the grinding noise, tell them you are now running it on 12 volts. They will make any necessary changes for a small fee.
