I picked uo a 1206 IH, looks like the fuel pump was off not long ago, I have no book, can someone explain how to check to see that it is timed correct? where to look for marks, engine is not running, thanks for any help

Timing is done with the flywheel, there should be a cover with two bolts. When the engine is at TDC the lines on the pump head should also line up. (take off the little plate held on with two screws). I am not looking at a book to see exactly where the timing should be but this will get you started.

d282 has you on the right track. When you have the small plate off the clutch houseing their is a metal pointer that will point to the timeing marks on the flywheel when you turn it to the right spot which will be 8 degrees before top dead center.Ok on the side of the Roosa pump their is a small rectangal plate with two small screws holding it in place.Turn off fuel under tank take the small plate off and rubber gasket. You will see two scribe marks if you have it on No. 1 cylinder if you see one mark turn flywheel one more turn .Then both marks should line up when you are on 8 degree mark on flywheel. If not you have to rotate the whole pump that bolts to the front timeing cover .Three nuts bolt it to the cover loosen them some and turn whole pump to line up the marks when they line up tighten nuts. Then put everything back together. Then bleed pump if it has air in the sustem.
