43 Farmall M hydraulic release jamming

1943 Farmall M: When I pull back on the hydraulic release, the mechanism jams in the open position. Sometimes it takes quite a hard push to force it closed. It does not do it if I only pull the rod halfway back or less. Hot or cold makes no difference. Reservoir is full. The pull rod is free and clear, so I know it's internal. What's my problem? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Dave If you are useing the back port on the left that could be the problem. That is for the rear part of a cultavater behind the back wheels so it will drop after the front part is down and the tractor is moveing.

Thanks for the posts. This is a fairly recent development, after I've been using it for about 15 years. I will look and see where the lines are hooked in, but I wonder if there is a problem with the gear inside the pump. Right now I'm using the loader frame to plow snow, but it was also hanging up last summer when I was using the back end hose to lift my 2B plow in the field. Incidently, I have valves installed on the lines to the loader cylinders so I can shut them off while pulling the trailer plow.

Inside the pump, there is a lever that latch's on a machined ledge. Normally , they don't hold good enough so unusual for it to hold too good. Over the outlet of the relief valve is a cap that push's this lever when the relief valve open and allows the oil to come through hole in end of relief valve. Your problem has to be in that area. Bent lever or cap is getting stuck between relief valve and lever,(cocking off to the side). There again, usually when that lever bends the cap pops off and ends up in bottom of pump some place. Lever is mallable so it can be straightened and a little fileing or grind on right spot to make it latch good but readily easy to trip. The headed pin the lever pivots on can also become bent causing your problem.
