My ten year old son recently purchased neighbors 1950"s Super C from estate sale not running for 4h project, Engine block was discovered to be cracked. trying to find either new block or sell tractor for parts has new rear tires
 
Block shouldn't be hard to find......If anywhere near central MN, I'm sure Gotvald Implement in Hillman MN would have one. 320-355-2500
 
Should be an easy engine block to find regardless or where you are located as they were used in lots of tractors. You want the 123 cu. in block and not a 113 cu. in. which is the earlier small Farmall tractor block before the Super C tractor was produced, Hal.
 
Since these motors are fully sleeved it is not out of the question to consider welding or brazing the crack unless it crosses a bearing race or some similar situation. Mine and many more are welded since the old guys tended to use only water for coolant and sometimes failed to drain the block before a big freeze.
 
If its for a 4H project i have a block you can have for free. There is nothing wrong with it and it comes out of a super C. Only thing is im in Ontario.
 
The part number for the block you want is cast in the block. The one you want is 354898 R(some number). This identical block was use in the late C and Super A, prior to the Super A1 and Super C. So it is the block number that is important, not the tractor it came out of. It accepts a kit giving 134 cu in instead of the factory 123 cu in. The late C and late Super A used thicker sleeves to keep the cu in at 113.
 
Where is the crack? Mine was cracked behind the carb & I welded it with nickel rods about 40 years ago & it is still dry there.
 
I found good blocks hard to come by. A lot of blocks have cracks. I had mine spray welded and remachined. It cost about as much as a used block ( they are night cheap to ship).
