Farmall 400 steering

I can measure mine...but do you mean is it a tapered (pipe type) thread vs. non-tapered (bolt type) thread? Do you need to know how many threads per inch and diameter?
 
That is a large plug, however if it is the same as a pipe plug you can take it to a plumbing place and look for a sleeve it will screw into. It may be described in the 400 parts book, but probably not.
 
Sorry this took so long--I had to remove the nose of my 450 to get at it. The "plug" is an odd size--slightly smaller than a 2 inch pipe plug, but it is definitely a tapered, pipe, thread. I asked a man with a lot of hardware experience about it, he said it is the same size and thread used on the larger bung of a steel 55 gallon drum (a "barrel plug"). I actually have one around my place, if I can put my hands on it; if you send me your address, I'll mail it to you. Let me know. Hugh
 
Correction: I found one and tested it in the boss of the steering unit--and it is NOT the same thread. All I can tell you is that the correct part has, apparently, 12 threads per inch, and it is slightly smaller than a 2 inch pipe plug, and yes, it is tapered. Good luck.
 
You're very welcome. Do you know anyone who has 400/450 sheet metal for sale, specifically the right side hood panel and the front grill? Thanks.
 
Sorry I do not. But theirs a guy on eBay (marty2374) he sells alot of farmall 400/450 parts for very good prices shipping not too bad. He is located in Bad Axe,Michigan.
