Blocking up H

I am changing the seals and gasket on the H transmission. I had it easy jacking and blocking to change the axle seals.

How would you safely jack and block to change the bell gaskets? It is a narrow front, and one of the gaskets is leaking.

Both the final housing, and the axle housing must be supported individually. The gasket can be eliminated, and black (or blue) RTV can be used. The bells will slide out enough to clean the surfaces if you are careful. Some use a new gasket and split it at the top, then use a dab of RTV to close the gap.
Do not over use the sealant or it will squirt out into the system. Other than that, the bull gears would need to be removed from the axles to allow removal of the entire housing and axle. Doing it with the wheel and tire on is more challenge. Axle removal is able to be done through the PTO hole if you are small armed. Block up the bull gears to allow much easier insertion of the axles when going together. Jim

Jim, I bought the gaskets last winter in anticipation of changing them.

I need to take cover off transmission yet, will post when I get that off. That gasket is leaking too. I think my dad had it apart, thus the leaks. I am thinking he had the one bell and the cover off, hope I do not find something welded.
