Plowing with Grandfathers 8-16

Yesterday I decided it was time to get their clothes dirty. Took the 8-16 & Little Genius Chain Lift plow out on stubble. The 8-16 was designed to have all four wheels up on unplowed ground. (A plow guide was attached to the front axle which followed the furrow wall.) Didn't get things set up properly as the rubber cleats did not provide sufficient traction. Guess I will have to stop going to shows and put on the proper steel lugs.

That is beautiful. I imagine a farmer in the next field swapping out teams while you motor on by making 2 rounds for their one. It would have made a point!!! Jim

Awesome pictures - Thanks for sharing them .

Quite a few "plow days" pics of old iron iron in action get posted on this site, but very few of those pics represent that era in time.

You must have extra-sensory perception!!!

This was the same field to-day. Its my friend's
team.
We wanted to get it as you suggested but it didn't quite work out.

Awesome.... Makes me motivated to get my 1922 and 1918 8-16s running.. BTW. I have plow guides for both tractors, just short the controls that mount at the operator platform.

Nice to see it out of the shed and working.

Anyone have clutch parts for and 8-16? Grandpa has one in the shed that we need parts for.

Nice picture. Really neat to see one of those doing the work they were made for instead of just lookin pretty in a lineup.

That second picture is priceless, a great old tractor showing it just isn't a pretty display and a determined operator once again excercising knowledge that would otherwise be lost in future generations.

That is really neat. As a "beginner" in the tractor world, I find it really fascinating to see the old iorn out working. I would love to see that in person and working.

Thank you

sounds like my daughter, when my wife took a picture of me at our plow day, on a 1926 regular: "dad, they didn't wear ball caps then!"
