Wandering oil pressure on 1952 8N

My 1952 8N has about 1000 or so hrs. since new and got from original owner and never been apart. It has about 50 lbs. of oil pressure on start up and warming up but sometimes it will drop rather quickly of all things when going down hill with throttle pulled back. Always stays near 40/45 psi except in this one downhill thing. Oil is straight 30 weight. Any thoughts on if this is something i should worry about? There is no usage of oil or smoking or engine noise at all. Thank you.
 
If you oil level is full on the dipstick measured with the tractor on the level, I'm not sure the oil pump would lose suction going downhill unless it's a really steep hill.
I mow one section of my place where the hill is so steep the
tractor actually slides and it never loses oil pressure.
 
i agree with the others. in fact. I think it would be worth an oil change to check that pickup tube. if it is solid. try running an extra quart and see what happens

All good answers and thank you all. I will change oil tomorrow and inspect pick up and if solid will try the one extra qt. Would you stick with straight 30 or use 20/50?? Thanks again.
 
personally.. i'd go with 15w40.

thinner at startup.. so leas wear and better cold pour point. and better viscosity when hot than 30w.

i'd reserve 20w50 for severly worn engines that need the 50w on the top end when hot idle is low psi.

15w40 is also a C rated oil and IMHO.. higher quality than an S rated 30w
 
Changed oil today and pick up was solid and topped it off about 1/2 qt. high and everything was perfect with no oil pressure drop going down hills. Thanks again for tips.
