[b:bdad69c1c2]I was helping my friend yesterday at his farm. I bush hogged while he was disking ground. In the middle of disking his 4020 ran out of fuel, he started to re-fuel and saw something leaking. So he flagged me down while I was mowing the front field (the one in the background of 1st pic), and we proceeded to pull the fuel tank and found a small pin hole. Pretty much ended his day, and it started to down pour so that ended my day.

The old H got a workout though, bush hogged almost 25 acre's.[/b:bdad69c1c2]

Ironic thing is, He's an IH guy. Has a 706, 300 and all IH equipment. Guess the 4020 didnt like that he was wearing an IH shirt yesterday LOL.

The 4020 was part of the deal when his parents bought the farm.

Nothing wrong with a 4020 if you can get that stupid gear shift to slop through all the slots to find a gear. I do like the cab that has real windows!

glad someone else feels the same way about that shifter. If I had to run green I would choose a 4020.

(quoted from post at 16:13:29 10/08/12) What size is the bushhog? Looks like it would be a load for an H!

7 foot Model 307 single spindle. Most of what I mowed yesterday was in 3rd, thicker stuff I mowed in 2nd and flat ground I mowed in 4th all wide open throttle, once them blades get spinning its good to go.

I wouldn't want anything bigger behind the H though.

yup, 13.6's out back, tiny 5.50-16's up front. I got both those rear's from a friend for $450, they were like new. He bought them to put on his Ford but then sold the tractor.

They look good, I am planning for that size in the spring. I am looking forward to the extra road speed.

I have 600x16 on front already.

Thanks. If I can find a set of 6.00-16's for cheap I'm going to swap them out, its a little nose low with the 5.50's.

(quoted from post at 17:00:33 10/08/12) Looks like you sucked one of those "green things" into your Pre cleaner as well. ;)

Indeed I did, oddly enough its a 4020 also! haha

As much as you Red guys like to hack on the 4020, even a red one can have a leaky fuel tank...

My H and the 4020 did battle last winter and the 4020 won. The H rolled down the hill and put the bale spear of the 4020 right through the H radiator.

damn, that'll leave a mark.

I see you're mowing w/ a Bush Hog brand mower. Can anyone give me any advice/input (pros/cons/features) on Bush Hog mowers as I'm looking at a used 6', 3 pt. hitch, Bush Hog Squealer. Thanks, Mick

[b:3be246ba06]IMO Bush Hog and Woods make the best rotary/brush mowers. The deck on my 307 is 1/4" thick, "downside" to this is its a heavy piece of equipment but to contradict that its built to last and can take the abuse. Parts are readily available which is a big bonus too!

I had a John Deere 507 that I used before I bought the Bush Hog, that John Deere doesn't hold a candle to what I can mow with my Bush Hog AND also I can no longer get major parts for the 507.

Its basically to each his own, just like JD and IH, Ford and Chevy etc etc etc[/b:3be246ba06]

neighbor has 2 4020's, both syncro shifts. we replaced his fuel tank last year. they have a poly type replacement now. comfortable tractor to run too. shifter is a little different to use tho, takes some getting used to. darn diesel will start at zero degrees, no ether, no glow plugs, and not plugged in.

If the shifting mechanism in the 4020 is in good
condition , five minutes learning how to use it and
you are good to go. The power train is the good part
of those greenies, far as the rest, engine,
electrical and I will even throw in their
hydraulics, you can have them. $$$$$$$$$$

Farmallmick,

I got a 6' 3 point model # 286 I use behind my Super M. It is a GREAT mower.Tough gear boxes!!! (BTW,the 301 and 401 lines are a HEAVER mower)

I would personally stay away from thier "Squealer" line of mowers. They are a cheaper made model.(Light gauge steel deck".I think the squealer line was built to compete with the likes of KingCutter,Landpride lines of mowers.

I have seen ALOT of squealer chassis that are "TRASHED" in short order!!!

What was the tempature outside? Looks like it is running alittle in cold zone instead of the green zone. Bad thermosat or gauge does not work?

eh I think it was low 50's and damp. light rain on and off the whole day until we started pulling the fuel tank on the 4020 then it down poured.

Its a new gauge, got it from Steiner's. When I mowed in the summer it showed about mid green. About 2 weeks ago I put new radiator hoses on and flushed the radiator, blew the fins out and put fresh coolant in.
