I am considering building a "Little Tractor" replicar of a McCormick W series tractor from one of my excess Cub Cadets. For sheet metal, can someone tell me the approximate width and height of a A grill and hood and the approximate width and height of a Cub grill and hood. I am thinking I can possably cut down one of these to make a W looking hood, tank, and grill for the Cub Cadet.

Cubs from that era have a simple wire mesh grill that looks nothing like a W-4-6-9 series. Later Cubs look nothing like the old letter series.

I know it's not a precise answer to your question, but hopefully you find it helpful to know when you're barking up the wrong tree.

I appreciate your offer, but I think a mid model Cub sheet metal is smaller and will be eisier to fit.

The mid series Cubs, I am not excatly sure of the years, between the screen grill and the later flat grill, are of the basic Lowery design which is basicly the same as the W grills. They may or may not work for what I want but I have to start looking somewwhere.

You're probably talking about the 1954-1958 style, the 11-bar grille.

Those pretty closely approximate the "hundred series" and the "fifty series" tractors far far more than the letter series. It would make a neat mini-W400 or W450.

The 11-bar grilles are kinda tough to come by, though. They and the subsequent 4-bar grilles were made for the shortest times and in the fewest numbers.
 
I met a guy at the Forest Steam show, that builds antique tractor tinwork for riding lawn mowers. He does a nice job of it. He's from the Belle River area, I believe.
