my 9N rear is leaking at the three point hitch mount,the one bolt spins. housing is loose, the hitch pin is loose. is something cracked?

Chip.......I just answered yer question.
kinda yes'n'no. Unlike the later 8N, the 9N/2N lower link has a 2-bolt'n'gasket attachment scheme. With the 3-point stud torqued to 150ft/lbs INSIDE the axle trumpet. That means you haffta remove BOTH the AXLE'n'BRAKE drum and then the 11-nuts that hold the axle trumpet onto the diffy housing. I saw a signboard the other day that said "Harleys don't leak oil, they just MARK their SPOT". Yer 9N is also marking its spot.
Remember there are 5-gals of hydro-tranny oil that hassta leak outta yer 3-point link. As long as you keep 4-gals in yer tranny, yer good to go. Iff'n the leak bothers you, a clever shadetree mechanic could jerry-rig a tunafish can and some bailin'warr to catch the leak. .........leakless Dell

thanks Dell. I was afraid of that, my book only shows the 8N. It marks its spot more often than my labrador. I guess Im goin in
