frosty Carb.

I am having a problem with my carb frosting up. It frosts at bottom of intake man. and the carb then it will start to flood the carb as gas runs out if I close the fuel line to just a little flow I can keep running. Is the carb freezing up? Thanks for the help.

Yep, pretty common really. that is why aircraft have carb heaters.
 
Antidote from DELL.......wrap the carb where it is attached to the manifold with ALUMINUM FOIL. Helps keep the carb. warm.

I have the same problems with my Ford Escort, CFI. New Gas with water will cause bucking. I insulated the throttle body with refrigeration-type insulation plus starting to use anti-icing product and no more bucking.
 
Would you believe if it didn't do that it would not be working as it should?? It is caused but the atomizing of the fuel and all gas engines do it some but you just do not see it in cars and trucks due to the heat riser tube from the manifold pulling hot air up. Will cause more problems when the humidity is high. Ways to get around it is lay a tarp over the hood so as to hold in engine heat or a cover over the carb side of the engine and a heat shield made to hold heat in that area of the carb
 
It"s frosting from the evaporative cooling takeing place as the fuel changes from liquid droplets to a gas. That"s normal in high humidity environments when the ambient temperature is below ~ 50°F. It may run ratty when this occurs because of icing within the venturi. Ths should clear up as the manifold heats up and transfers some heat to the carb casting.
It should not flood however. Are you putting a lot of choke on whe this happens? Or perhaps your float is set a little high.
 
Thanks This the first year that happened.It got in the 40s today had a hard time getting it home and put away started to think the crap gas we buy today has something to do with it. In 1968 I used to pay 0.24.9 for prem. 4 gals for a $1.00
 
played with the carb to day and found that the float must be stuck or sank when I turn on the gas it runs out the carb. I never could get a carb to work after I rebuild one. should I look for a new one or have someone rebuild this one?

If when you put the "N" away..... ya didn't drain the carb bowl, it had water/condensation, from the carb icing, still in the bowl....then it probly froze up the water in the bowl and crushed the sides of the floats. Floats filled up with remaining water and fuel.....Causing the carb to flood out of the choke tube, with the floats on the bottom of the bowl.

May be that, all ya have to do is replace the floats, and check the rest of the fuel system for water!!!!
