2N Stiff Right Brake

The right brake pedal on the '47 2N I'm working on requires a good deal of pressure to push down to get the pedal to travel. Once pushed down, the pedal wants to stay there unless you pull it up with your toe. Pulling it up also requires an unusual amount of force. When the pedal travels, you can hear a squeaking noise and feel drag somewhere in the mechanism. What should I be looking for to fix this problem?

I would suspect the bushing where the brake activation shaft goes thru the backing plate. Heat, PB Blaster, repeated for several days will loosen it up.
 
I think Harold pegged it. They get dry and full of crud in there.
If you do have to take it apart to clean/lube it, consider taking both sides apart and switching the shafts from right to left. I did that on a 2N I had and eliminated about 40 years worth of wear where the clutch pedal rides on the shaft. There was still some wear in the clutch pedal itself but it tightened up that pivot a Lot.
 
Hopefully I can solve the problem without going through the hassle of removing that rear tire. But if not, then it's gotta come off for sure.

I had the same problem. I did pull the wheel off and axel out and cleaned the brakes but still could not get the shaft to move in the bushing. I put it back on the the tractor and worked it by hand every day and spraying oil and penetrating oil on the shaft where it goes thru the bushing. It did work loose. I think it worked better on the tractor because the shaft was held staright by the bearing in the diff. housing.
