sherman 54c pto pump

Trying to size a new pump for my backhoe/loader (on an 8N with Sherman combo) and need to know max pump size for crank driven pump. From some info I have found, the PTO pump puts out approximately 18gpm in step-up range, on a 641 (lots of digging at the N site). I would like to just use one pump for every thing as opposed to two pumps. Thanks.

You are basically limited only by horsepower. A 2 CID pump puts out 15.7 GPM @ 2000 engine RPM and will fit very nicely up front.

I was hoping you'd chime in TOH. I lost the info from our
previous discussions. So a 15.7 gpm pump is about max then
correct? I don't think 2 gpm loss is going to hurt performance
that much. Relief for those cylinders is 1600 psi I think. Also
are you now offering the pump/ loader mounting option as
pictured above? I've been checking your site for it, but have not
seen it there. Cost on pump and all mounting requirements?
Not interstead in hoses. I'm going to hard pipe it with 0.049
wall ss tubing and swage-loks. E-mail should be open.

Good eyes to spot the loader mount and yes I have that setup available. I'll send some email with pricing - it's a bit less than a PTO pump. You can easily go bigger than 2 CID on the pump as long as the N has enough ponies to make the pressure you need. I'd have to look at some manufacturers performance graphs (HP vs pressure and flow) to get a definitive answer. As far as performance goes your breakout forces are a functuion of the 1600 PSI system limit not flow rate. A 16 vs 18 GPM pump will increase the cylinder cycle times by about 11% however. So if it's a little slow now you might want to think about that.

With the PTO pump that came with the hoe, and checking
owners manuals, the aux trans had to be in step-up mode to
work 'properly'. It seemed to function alright with the milk
colored fluid in it, although a little jerky but bigger is always
better right?

That's what TOOH says

A quick check of the the power curve for an Eaton 1.87 CID pump shows 1500 PSI @ 2000 RPM requires 12 input horsepower. Looks like a 2 cubic inch pump should be no problem for the old flatty.
