Ordering parts; Questions

I want to order a few parts, but I have some questions:

1. This site's parts store won't ship parts outside the US. What is a good recommended source that will ship parts to Canada?

2. Is the override coupling I need if I want to put a modern mower onto my 8N this one here: http://www.ytmag.com/C670F_9653.htm I base this on the understanding that the 8N has a 1-1/8" male spline, and modern mowers have a 1-3/8 female spline. Correct?

3. What parts do I need to think about for a brake job? I'll be hauling my tractor from the cabin back to the city for some work, and I'd love to do the brakes while it's there. (One side doesn't work at all, the other is marginal.) And I'd like to get it back to the cabin ASAP, so it'll be available for plowing snow off the drive, now that winter is on the way. Without having opened it up yet, is there a "standard" repair that can be expected (and for which I can pre-order parts), or is it a matter of inspecting the brakes before I can order anything?

Thanks,

-Paul

Call or email nnalert's & see if they ship to Canada.

" the 8N has a 1-1/8" male spline, and modern mowers have a 1-3/8 female spline. Correct?"

Well yea, but what if your tractor has the new shaft installed? I've got 1 w/ the 1-1/8" shaft & 2 w/ the larger shaft.

HINT: measure it.

" What parts do I need to think about for a brake job?"

nnalert's sells brake kits & shoes.

But, until you pull it down, you won't know for sure if you need seals.

Bruce -- I did measure it. It's 1-1/8". I just wanted to confirm that I wasn't misreading or misunderstanding the specs on that part.

IF you are going to tear it down far enough for a brake job I would consider replacing the axle seals wihile it's apart. THing is if everything is there, and in good shape all you need is new shoes. But if hardware is missing/broken you will not know it until it's apart.

Thanks Rick. Which seals are the ones I might need? It doesn't hurt (much) to buy them now, and put 'em on the shelf if they're not actually needed yet. A reference to a part number on this site or Just 8N's would be helpful.

Thanks,

I just did my brakes on my 8N the earlier ones have a different seal set up than the newer ones I believe - the link to how to do the brakes is useful - take pictures along the way of everything to refer back to when you are re-assembling.

My wife just called me at work to let me know my nnalert shipment arrived.

$71 owing in tax/duty/brokerage fees. The tax should be under $15. I doubt in the NAFTA era that there's much (if any) duty. That means the UPS brokerage fees are somewhere in the realm of highway robbery...

Unfortunately, nnalert didn't give the postal service (brokerage fees = $7 last time I had something shipped by mail) as an option of shipping to Canada.
