Rust on interior of rim

Removed the tires off the rims today. One tire was loaded with calcium, previously had leaked. The interior of the rims is fairly rusty. Started to clean up with wire brush. What type of paint or good sealer could be applied, so as not to damage a new tube. Thanks, Murray

I used Rustoleum primer and paint on mine.
There is also a rubber rim band you can put around the rim under the tube.

The best thing I have found is the spray on bed liner stuff. It is made to hold up to a lot of stuff and in theory should hold up to most any thing that would be spilled in the bed of a truck so it holds up well on the inside of a rim. I have used it many many times. Plus if you want to go the extra step get it rhino lined and it has a life time warranty

clean it up good.

electrolysis is good if you have a place to put the rim ... otherwise chemicals like naval jelly or driveway iron rmeover / clr will eat it.. ( phosphoric acid )

once rust is gone.. weld or braze fix any holes or thin spots.

then prime and paint.

some like rusty metal primers and rust control paints by rustoleum and others. can also go for epoxy paints.. some rust control sealers like por15 are good.. and go what others say and use a sealing or ruberizing undercoating.. cold zinc finishes.. etc.. lots of preps.

pitting, once cleaned up and primed and painted shouldn't other a tube. if you weld a patch on and can't grind it good.. do as another poster said.

after paint is cured.. roll some duct tape in and around it... it DOES work.. :)

i found a boot/cut up tube taped to the inside of a rim before..
